LMSO ... I know I know

I like proper hard cider ... being a Westcountry boy

And I like stout from time to time too ...  but it's not really a session beer ... even the highly diluted cold fizzy crap that they serve up in the UK as Guinness. Well, maybe that was a bit strong ... but the UK version as I have tasted it is not really much more than a thick shandy.

Multi-tasking, easy, drink beer and watch telly.

Used to be concerned, but these days, dont give a rat's arse about trub into the fermenter 😃 - certainly speed the transfer up from the boiler.  The beer isnt ever the worse for it either.  I just run the outlet tap through a stainless sieve, to catch any big lumps, and to aid in a little aeration.  I can only see trub being a minor inconvenience if you're planning on harvesting the cake, as the yeast will be dirtier than otherwise.
Beer is like porn - you can buy it easily enough, but its so much more fun to make it [wink]

I’m not bothered by trub but I do think a flaw in a counterflow chiller set up (eg the grainfather) is that you chill straight into the fv.
With an immersion chiller you chill in the kettle and usually get a shed load of break material in the kettle, which you filter out somehow
But with a counterflow that material either stays in the wort or ends up in the fv, and I’m convinced my beer clarity suffers as a result

Grainfather manuals etc all say not to recirculate chilled wort into the boiler, but this strikes me as more likely to remove any protein in a cold break.

Thanks Pinto ;-) I was trying to understand how to avoid losing so much beer when removing the trub. The answer was so simple "just run the outlet tap through a stainless sieve". I thought it would run through a sieve but no, worked a treat, saving me a lot of beer.

I do similar, I use a voile lined colander to catch the trub. [thumb]

Thanks! I'll be doing that next time.
