Found this very useful webpage which groups hops into families:

http://www.brewconductor.com/brewing/ingredients/hop-varieties-and-personality-groups/

Noblesse - with a 'noble' character
Saazy - saaz spice
Britannic -
Styriac
Cascadian
Pacifical
Bittering only  ( I disagree with some of these!)

In fact I think you could move a number of hops to other groups, and some seem to belong in more than one. Motueka is bred from Saaz but is in the Pacifical group, Riwaka is bred from Saaz and is in the Saaz group. If anything I would swap them round. Celeia is similar to Fuggles and Willamette but in a different group.

Maybe I will do my own hop groupings!

It's a useful way of describing hops to help people choose what to buy I think.

Maybe so, but I can't help being different.
