Not the most interesting of subjects but, how do the AG brewers store 25kg + of base malt at a time and keep pests away?

I don't store 25kg myself. I have bought the odd sack in the past, I kept it in the large size plastic crates with lids. I still keep my grain in plastic crates. On shelves just below the ceiling.

Mine is in the house right now, so it's living in a sack.  For external storage, I reccomend the 60L HDPE blue barrels from Ebay with the screw on lid (or two of the smaller 30L ones) - keeping the malt out of Mickey's Mouth is a mission sometimes tho.
Beer is like porn - you can buy it easily enough, but its so much more fun to make it [wink]

Thanks for the info. I haven't had a problem yet, bit as now looking to reduce costs by buying bulk, I'm looking for preventative measures.  Will check out the 60l drums...

Any other thoughts?

No idea whether 25k would fit in one, but I keep everything in big plastic crates I need the shed, the 'really useful box' brand you get in b&q in every size imaginable (if you can only imagine up to about 80L)

If you have a branch of Morrisons locally, I noticed they're selling a quite substantial 185L storage "chest" for around £20 IIRC - the lid is lockable with plastic buckles, but I dont thing it's airtight like the drums so you'd likely have to put a plastic sheeting liner in there if you intended to keep the grain in the longer term.
