I'm going to make a small batch of smoked porter at the weekend (10l)

I'd bought a 10l FV for this, though it has arrived broken and also the 10l mark is a bit closer to the rim than I'd feel comfortable with any way.

Will there be any problems in using a full size FV? I'll probably scale it up to 12l any way.

Cheers.

Yeah, emailed HBC. Asked for a refund or replacement. If I get a refund I'll get a 15l one for next time I think!

Thanks for the response too.

Shane is normally good with stuff like this 👍

You’ll be fine in the bigger FV, I use the 15L ones for 10-12L batches and they work well so that’s a good option for replacement

I think I've only done one brew that filled my 5 gallon fv all the rest are way down inside being usually around 10 - 12 Litres.

I once did 5L in a 30L fv, it was about 15cm at the bottom. Siphoning it out was a bugger
I routinely do 10-15L in a full size fv tho.

Cool, I'll just use a normal size one then. Dark beers normally go mental anyway.

HBC kindly offered to refund the broken one.

What's the smallest batch anyone has brewed?
I did a 4L citra pale once just to use up bits and bobs. Did it in a 5L Tesco ashbeck bottle. It was lovely too.
I read a blog where some bloke made one pint of beer!

I've only ever done full length brews. Going to make some beers that I like the sound of, but don't want 30 odd bottles of, starting with this one.

I must admit that it seems a lot of effort for anything less than 10L though, but I get your point about using up left overs. Must be really annoying if its really nice though!

Glass half full - it's a bonus beer, even if it's only seven bottles!
