I'm missing the fitba cos i am at a beer tasting. This is a modern Brussels brewery. It cost a tenner, the best tenner i have ever spent in my life!!! I thought it would be small measures but no. And the beer is amazing. Truly. I MUST culture this yeast. And i may not bother with American hops any more!!! 

Taras Boulba. Loved it. Pils malt, Tettnang, Saaz and the house ale yeast. A beer much greater than the sum of its parts. Lemony fresh, dry, herbal, zesty, effervescent. Eye opener. So much flavour with local, traditional ingredients. I drink so many craft beers that follow the same script, and are nowhere near as good as this simple European beer.

It was brilliant. 6 fantastic beers. And a penalty shoot out win. [crazy]

This beer was awesome. Mixed fermentation.

These beers all use the brewery house yeast which was sourced from a 'traditional' Belgian brewery. I am certainly going to try to culture this one, it was so good. They ferment at different temperatures to get different results, 24-27C in some cases.

Only one of the beers used non-European hops. Which makes me want to use less New World hops in my own beers, certainly make more beers with European hops. They seem to use larger quantities of hops than is traditional in European beers, but they use traditional hops - Styrian Goldings, Perle, Tettnanger and Saaz featured in beers we tasted. The beer at the top was really fresh and zingy, quite bitter and dry, lemony and herbal. Made with Pilsner malt, Tettnanger and Saaz and the house (ale) yeast. It was lovely, sharp and bright and fresh. I would love to make it or something like it.

Sorry to bang on about this one, but i did really like the beers. They would suit a lot of people who dont like Belgian beers I reckon. I read an interview with one of the two owners and he said his favourite style is English bitter. He likes bitter, dry, low abv beers that are very drinkable. They brew beers they like drinking themselves.

The yeast is Belgian but not massively so. They ferment at 24-27C with it to develop esters, but they are fruity esters, fairly English really. There is an English influence in the beers IMO, a really nice hybrid way of brewing. 

Im just banging on because their beers have influenced what i want to drink and what i want to brew. To some extent. I need to get hold of their yeast, for one thing. And see what i can do with it.
