Conical flask (or Erlenmeyer Flask if you speak non queens english [rofl] ) and a stirring bee (or magnetic stirrer bar).  The size is dependant on the size of your vessel, but in general a 20-25mm bee will do fine. LOADS available on ebay.

The sizes are dependant on what you plan to do with it m8 - but 250ml, 500ml, 1 litre and 2 litre will cover you for prety much everything from trying to coax a bottle recovered yeast back to life to making a big fat starter for a high grav lager [smile]  Remember that the price of the flasks seems to go up logarithmically...

Ebay is good for the smaller stuff, but for 2L +, I'd reccomend looking at a school glassware or scientific supplier.

Get a 1L and 2L. You'll probably want 500ml and 1L starters mostly, but need headspace for active yeasts, so those are the sensible sizes. I've got both and haven't had a need for others.

And if you want a cool stir plate at a cheaper price (even after import tax and shipment) than the scientific ones, which are ludicrously expensive, then go on etsy.com and search for artisan stir plates. It's what I've got, they are cool and cheap, made from cigar boxes.

Some people - especially the lagerists - advise the 5L too.... which is great till you see how much a 5L flask will cost you [rofl] - around £50 at least.

Mind you... I have one of these...

but it doesnt get used too often for obvious reasons..... [biggrin]

I was amazed how big a 2L flask was. But then I thought about a 2L bottle of coke, plus then some and kind of went 'well obviously...'
