Hi guys,

I picked up back few small muslin bags and was thinking about putting my dry hops and hop pellets into these during my next boil. Is this a good idea or is it likely to detract from the hops ?

Thanks

I wouldn't pack hops tightly into a bag. Can you post a picture of them?

Are they proper muslin? I'd be concerned about sanitisation. I've got nylon hop bags, easy to clean and sanitise.
Maybe boil them?

ive used hop bags since i started brewing all grain, never had an issue at all..  i also tie string around the neck of the bag and tie it to the handle on my boiler...  makes them dead easy to get out when there hot.. i just clean them and soak them in starsan before use

This is what I bought. Seemed like a good idea at the time to save a bit of mess but am having second thoughts now.

You could use them in the boil. You could also use them for steeping grain, if you ever do that. Not sure I would dry hop with them.

ive used them for dry hopping.. but to be honest its not worth bothering and i just chuck em in the fv..  but i use them all the time during the boil.. could be handy if dry hopping with leaf though, just remeber to put some marbles in the bag to make them sink

And sterilise the bag. Boil it, or soak it in starsan.

Sorry my bad explanation. That's what I meant use them in the boil. To be honest I'm kinda going off the idea now.

I do the same. I got the Mrs to sew some bags up from the left over voile from my BIAB bag. Work well and just leave them to drain through a sieve after the boil .

Don't go off the idea. They are a good buy IMO.
