Okay the latest is I have left the Weisen a bit longer and now the head is quite a bit better and has improved. So about a week ago I got my daughter to try it against the real thing from Munich in a blind test side by side (she has a degree in food sciences and has been involved in food designs). These are her comments: "I'm not sure which is the real one as they taste almost similar", but she chose the one that retained the head longer as the real one. However she went on to say she thought she could drink more of mine as it was not as astringent as the real one and mine had a rounder smoother flavour........Yay...
My comments are, yes the flavour was similar and definitely has a bananary fruity flavour as its supposed to have and is very effervescent like an alka-seltzer when poured but the head doesn't last for long despite the fizzyness, I think it will improve with age. It is slightly cloudy and looks like the original. My wife and daughters like it. For me I think it is okay and drinkable, but would I brew it again....I don't think so as its not really my style. Not a very good photo as its on a stainless bench top so looks a little grey where it actually is quite a nice pale yellow.

That's really positive feedback. Sounds like it will all get drunk.

Yes the feedback boosted my ego a bit but I don't think I will brew it again. I have tried wheat beers before and they have never really griped me to want them that often. The experience of making it was good but I think I will continue making beers that I really like.

Makes sense, Leigh. Did you not make it for your wife or something?

Did the yeast get you quite close then? M21 wasn't it?

Yes I made it especially for my daughter who liked it so much when she was in Munich a few years ago, she had it on tap, she has taken most of it back home to her place. No not for my wife she doesn't drink but likes to taste it as she doesn't like the feeling how alcohol affects her so it's great if I need a sober driver.

The yeast was an M20.

Yes sorry, M20. M21 is the Wit yeast, I've yet to try that one.

And yes, sorry, your daughter. Age is starting to affect my brain. Unless its the beer. Or both.

It's probably not the beer, you only drink the best [smile]

Yes I was pleased how it turned out Pesh but not really my style but maybe given time I could grow to enjoy it more.........maybe after a few glasses of it.
I may keep some aside to send in for the Euro contest but not too sure about that, I wont have anything else to send in by that time so I guess that will be my only option.

Wheat beers ... not a huge fan either but you have just won the HBUK competition and successfully brewed a wheat, an accomplished brewer.

Thanks for the compliment Womble but I just see myself as a home brewer trying (not too hard) to improve on the rather ordinary corporate brew houses and if I can make a brew that I enjoy then I guess I have accomplished what I set out to do and have some fun on the way.
Yes Wheat beers are certainly different aren't they, I have tried some from craft brewers too and not any of them have had the wow factor in my opinion. I was at a friends birthday party a while back and there was someone I was talking to and he was raving over wheat beers and just loved them, so we all enjoy different tastes don't we.

You can’t beat the classics for a weiss
Erdinger, fransisker, wiehenstephaner
They’re all great examples
