Do you have a brewing book, a primer ?  You'll probably find it a lot easier getting the info out of a book rather than scooting round the internet getting lost and getting conflicting info.
Multi-tasking, easy, drink beer and watch telly.

Cheers for that I had considered getting a good book and that one seems to cover it all I'll be reading that out the garden with a few beers tomorrow :-)

And that brew has bitten the dust it had green mold floating on it still pretty amazing that it fermented though with all that going on. Not to worry though everything is soaking in sanitizer and I'm looking forward to making my next brew.

Oh well, you gave it a chance but you made the right decision. Any mould is definitely an immediate chuck. Moulds can be very toxic.

After a few days of reading up on it I've got a big ss cooking pot etc coming and an extract kit for a ruby dark mild I'm looking forward to giving it a shot.

I've got my 11L ss induction brew pot, table top induction hob, xl strainer bag  and an extract kit as you can see in the photo's. The instructions for the kit look simple enough but I have a couple of questions before I give it a go, the kit comes with a muslin bag 'sock' but seen as I bought the big strainer bag would it be better to use that instead so there's no need to strain at the end as per the instructions? and the kit didn't come with any finings but I keep reading it's best to add some irish moss 10 mins before the end of the boil is this something you guys do? btw I think there's a typo on the ingredients list shown in the photo it only has two bags of hops and I have a digital thermometer/mixing paddle just in case anyone wondered.

The muslin bag included with the kit is presumably sized to hold the specialty grains rather than hold a full-size grist you'd use for an all-grain brew. You can use your bag, but because it is probably much bigger than is necessary you need to make sure that the specialty grains are fully immersed in the liquor when you are steeping. Whereas with the smaller ‘sock’ you simply tie off the top and submerge the whole thing in 6 L. (Keep the sock in any case, it may come in handy in the future.)

Not sure what you mean by no need to strain? Even with your own bag, you will still pull the grains out once the steep is finished and you proceed to the boil. You don't boil the grains themselves, just the sugary solution you extract from them.

Kettle finings, such as Irish moss, are helpful but not absolutely necessary. With an extract kit you won't get as much break material because the extract has already gone through a boiling process (extract is basically pre-made wort which is then concentrated into a syrup or powder). So I wouldn't let lack of Irish moss hold you back from brewing today. I didn't use kettle finings for the first three or four of my all-grain brews and I still got decent beer. I do use Irish moss now, it's something that definitely helps when you switch to all-grain. But it's rare that any brew is ruined because finings weren't used.

Okay gotcha what I meant was the instructions say to pour the remainder of the cold water through the strainer to get the last of the goodness out of it I guess i could just tie the big bag over the bucket and do that it's a form of sparging right?

Be careful to follow the instructions exactly - I wouldn't try tailoring a brew until you have gained a little experience, but those days are not so far off, you will find. 
Ask before you jump, there's always someone here pleased to give you an answer. We've all been there.

First your xl strainer bag is overkill for 454g crystal malt, It will be perfect when you do an all grain mash when it will be holding 2-3kg of grain.
For now I'd use the sock they provide as it is perfectly adequate. 
Hop pack 1 contains a mix of two hops and will go in at the beginning of the boil to provide mostly bittering. Hop pack 2 has one variety of hop and goes in towards the end of the boil, It will mainly provide aroma.

I'm guessing you use the 'sock' as a strainer to separate the spent hops from the wort, so perhaps it is dual purpose.

This should be pretty straight forward, but ask again if its not clear.

As for finings for a first brew I wouldn't worry about it. If you carefully siphon off you'll get something that is perfectly okay. At a later stage when you have a few brews under your belt you can start tweaking up your technique but for now be satisfied with great well priced beer.

Try too hard and you are only looking for problems.
