Duff Beer
Hi All,

I bought a full home brew set up including kit (Coopers Draught) and brewed my first ever brew on Friday last week. I followed the instructions on the tin and was quite satisfied with my efforts when I sealed the FV and celebrated with a cold one. I waited for some action in the airlock over the weekend and got nothing. I checked the batch and the surface was clear with nothing obvious happening so on the Monday after the weekend I decided to pitch more yeast (assuming the yeast with the kit wasn't working. I later discovered a bag of brewing sugar with the brew set up and realised this should have gone in the FV on brew day!! I added the sugar later on Monday and immediately saw things starting to change. I re-sealed the FV but after a couple of days still no bubbles in the airlock. I'm now assuming I have an air leak somewhere! I have taken some readings OG was around 1022 which was way out from the beer kit instructions that said should be 1038. Obvioulsy now I know the sugar wasn't in. After Adding the sugar and additional yeast the SG was 1046 on Monday at 22deg, 1016 on Tue at 23deg and 1008 today at 23deg. So....my big question is....I have I ruined this batch?

I'm happy to say everything sounds fine! Nothing to worry about. Just leave it another week.
