I'm pretty sure I still have some left over from a robust/baltic porter i did a few years ago. IIRC I remember it being a bit more powdery, so I'm guessing it doesn't have a husk, which means it's probably less bitter than the barley variant.

I used some up in a bread beer earlier this year and it still smelt of coffee.

edit: here's the flavour wheel and suggestions from weyermann's - https://www.weyermann.de/eng/gelbe_Seiten_en.asp?snr=1&idkat=1015&umenue=yes&idmenue=37&sprache=2

I used it once. You could use it in place of regular choc malt. I think it's mostly used in dark beers but give it try, just don't be heavy handed with it or you'll get a dark roasty beer.

I put some in my rubbish black IPA so no real idea what it's like. Also used choc rye.

Guessing it's going to be more like Pale Choc than the normal Choc Malt then.

My feeling was that it has a more roasted flavour than pale choc. Could be wrong.

Have used chocolate wheat in a porter. It gives a lot less colour than chocolate malt.

Is it as harsh as normal choc malt? ( bitterness )
